The new work that I propose to present is entitled "Flight" and is a collaboration with Andreas Randow, a local software architect, entrepreneur, and flight enthusiast. As an innovative experiment for both Randow and me, "Flight" was collaboratively developed according to an object-oriented programming approach. Together we are exploring the emotional experience and physical properties of flight, particularly the shared experience of airplane travel. The object-inheritance properties of this programming approach lend themselves to each phase of the dance as an abstract task to complete, before moving on to the next part of the travel experience.

Four to seven dancers are onstage in this forty-minute piece of choreography that is brought to a new dimension with a sound and light score by Randow. The work is an abstraction of an experience that nearly everyone can relate to, created using a technological approach to art making. Through this combination of art, technology, and near-universal human experience, we hope to create a dance performance that resonates on a personal level with the audience, regardless of any prior exposure to the performing arts.

This is a show that honors the very special dancers who have worked in the choreography of Margot Parsons for many years, bringing their grace, artistry, clarity, and beauty to the dances.

The choreography of Margot Parsons emphasizes musicality, space, and the infusion of classical vocabulary with contemporary angularity to capture the beauty and grace of the human spirit. The seven dances, spanning 2000-2012, include a group work along with solos, duets, and trios to music ranging from jazz to classical to minimalistim. Dancers are coming from New York to perform and to be reunited with their colleagues.

Margot Parsons received her dance training in Ballet and Modern in Chicago and in New York. She has choreographed more than 100 works and performed in theaters and studios in New York, Boston, and other cities in the U.S. and Europe. The Boston Globe (October 4, 2004) said Margot Parsons used "an expansive embrace of traditional vocabulary [that] was enriched by modern influences … beautifully structured, [and] with a visually compelling use of space," and in 2012, that is seen to be "…full of sweeping turns, long-lined stretches, and luxurious reaches." The Boston Herald (November 20, 2005) said her work expresses "unexpected grandeur via simplicity" and cited her as one of "two local choreographers (to) top the 2004 list for inexhaustible productivity and a fertile imagination." www.dancevisions.net

The dancers featured are Connie Blumenthal, Nicole DeVicci, Langston Fishburne, Jackie Flynn, Daisy and Ruby Giunta, Anna Kharaz, Lia Kaynor, Julie Krieg, Sara Lapery, Eliza Mallouk, Marcie Mitler, Christine McDowell, Madelaine O'Connell, Marin Orlosky-Randow, and Julianna Stavros.

The show entitled “Stirrings” includes six pieces that all involve the interconnection of individuals who are traveling forward and backward in time, revisiting the past, and addressing the future.  The pieces enter the habitat of the light and dark where the quality of mutuality winds itself around the changing series of planes.  The evening captures the quiet stirrings that exist around our frenzied life.

Prior to the showing, Ms. Parsons and Mr. Bale will discuss their recent collaboration, offering viewers some additional tools for understanding and engaging with the dance. TEMPORAL CONSTELLATION is performed for one hour without intermission in a gallery-like atmosphere. It explores ideas of stratification, transmutation, and a changing series of planes while allowing certain narrative themes to emerge, fade and return as the dance progresses. Observers thus far have called it "mesmerizing" and filled with "powerful elegance."

You are invited because we value your opinion and would love to share this experience with you and know your impressions. Following the performance the dancers, choreographer, and musician will engage in lively dialogue with the viewers. The showing is the first part in a series of performances that will make Ms. Parsons' creative processes transparent and track the evolution of the dance as it mutates over time.
